Deirdre Quarnstrom (she/her) started the program at Mojang Studios to bring Minecraft to mainstream education which now reaches millions of students and educators around the world. As General Manager of Minecraft Atlas at Microsoft, she leads social impact for the Minecraft franchise which includes teams responsible for the Minecraft Education business, Minecraft Hour of Code, work to make Minecraft more accessible for players of all abilities, and programs focused on sustainability, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Deirdre serves as a Director on the board of Block by Block, a non-profit partnership between Mojang Studios and UN-Habitat that uses Minecraft to empower youth and women in developing nations, and is a Trustee on the Board of the French American School of Puget Sound and co-chair of the school’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. She holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from McGill University in Montreal, an MBA from Seattle University, and completed the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University in 2018. Deirdre, her husband, and their two daughters live in Seattle, Washington.
